Splegg launched on HiveMC in July 2013 and quickly became one of the server's most recognizable minigames. Millions of players played it casually, but a much smaller group took it far more seriously.

The International Splegg Association (ISA) was founded by Biplanonde, followed by the Splegg Tournament Association (STA), founded by Shaxd. Together with clans and independent organizers, they built a competitive scene around tournaments, World Cups, clan wars, and eventually an ELO ranking.

Hive shut itself — and with that, Splegg — down on 15 April 2021.

But that wasn't quite the end.

The competitive community continued elsewhere, eventually carrying Splegg into its final years on smaller, lesser-known servers — most notably FieldMC, until 2024.
